And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 22:11-13
Properly dressed to meet the Creator!
What does it mean to be properly dressed to meet the Creator? Because God's ways are different than ours.
Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
God uses things we can understand to explain what He requires. The Jews understood that a person invited to a wedding needed to dress a certain way to attend. The Jews also knew that not everyone invited to the wedding had the required clothing to attend so the host of the wedding had wedding garments for those coming if they needed one. God is going to use clothing to teach us what He requires about getting into heaven using the Jews wedding as
an example.
1: Going to heaven is a Special Occasion!
Weddings are special and joyous occasions. Generally those invited are expected to come. There may be legitimate reasons why you couldn't attend; health, time, work, distance etc. but if you could attend and just chose not to, the couple may be offended, and righteously so. There is no reason why you can't go to heaven and, if you choose not to, God will be offended and angry!
Matthew 22:2-27 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
Do you see God referring to Himself as "Royalty" and the "Father" wanting His "Son, Jesus" to be glorified and if you refuse for whatever excuse you can come up with that the king "God" is angry and righteously so and will destroy us.
Romans 2:8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
I looked up "indignation", it said "passion as if breathing hard" "fierceness" "wrath". God is giving us a picture of how offended He is at those who do not go to heaven. Did you also notice what some do to those who tell them the truth. In the military my commander came up to me and said he heard I was leaving Bible tracts around the dorm and told me to stop because it violated the solicitation rules.
Acts 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
I chose to continue putting out Bible tracts and was not confronted again by this issue but some suffer greatly and some are murdered.
2: All are invited:
Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
It's free so the only hindrance is our refusal to obey the truth because honestly we love our sin, we want it our way! I grew up in a religious system that I didn't like. I was forced to go. When I could choose for myself I made the excuse saying I liked the old way(a lie) and didn't like the modern changes so that's why I chose not to attend. Then in the military to get out of the dorm I attended the modern service. Then I attended a 2nd service because the priest was so upbeat he made me feel good. It all was determined by what "I" wanted never what "God required".
3: Going to heaven requires "Proper Dress":
God is going to use clothing as an example. Let's compare "our righteousness" to a mechanic's "coveralls". I'm using this example because when a mechanic gets to work he puts on the coveralls because he knows he will get them dirty and greasy. At times he will wash them and get some dirt and grease out but they will be stained. After awhile they will get so bad he may cut them up for rags. Most people I talk with say they hope to get to heaven because they are a good person. They try to right wrongs and do good deeds. When my children were young I made many mistakes as a father. There were times I hurt them. One time my daughter got hurt on her bike and instead of comforting her I scolded her. I have said I was sorry and she forgave me but at times we may both think about it. I tried to wash away the hurt but it still left a stain. As we go through life we all get stained. Sometimes we choose not even to wash. A TV preacher said Mother Teresa is in heaven because she gave her life to the poor and suffered poverty. He believed she is in heaven based on "her righteousness". If the TV preacher was not
lying when he said that, then that means he believes that he will get to heaven based on "his righteousness" which my example is a "mechanic's coveralls". God gives us His opinion of "our righteousness".
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us way.
If we plan to go to heaven we will dress "properly" and we will not wear our work cloths no matter how clean we think they are. We have a problem in that we can see all the filth of others but have a hard time seeing our filth. God sees all our filth and if we try getting into heaven, like the person tried to get into the Jewish wedding, this will be the result:
Matthew 22:11-14 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen. We will not have anything to say when we meet the Creator! We will be judged guilty and cast into an eternal lake of fire and torment because we chose not to "properly" dress for heaven.
Revelation 20:13-15 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
This is the result of not having "Christ's Righteousness".
4: What is the "Proper Dress"?
Romans 10:1-3 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
"God's Righteousness" vs " our righteousness". We must be clothed in God's or "Christ's Righteousness" .
Galations3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put
on Christ.
You must be wearing Christ! What does that mean? How can you wear or" put on Christ"?
Many and most so called Christian churches teach that when you are baptized, and most baptize in water when you are a baby, that you are now a child of God and usually they teach it must be their church denomination. Do not make the fatal error that most make. "Putting on Christ" is between you and God only. When you believe or agree with God that you need "His Righteousness" and as good as you are you will only end up in hell based on your righteousness and repent of your sins and their outcome believing Christ shed His blood paying for your sin and ask Him to save you, trusting Him alone to make you dressed "properly" for heaven, then God performs an operation on you which removes your sin outcome and cloths you with "God's or Christ' Righteousness".
Psalms 28:5 Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up.
It takes God to save us not some religious system. There is a difference between wanting to live for God and just wanting God's goodies. I would like Obama's money and power but because we have different values I would not want to be part of his family. The same goes for God. Many I've talked with want and enjoy God's air, food, water and prosperity but they do not want to live for Him. To get saved you must believe you need Christ and want Him and then you ask Him to save you, wanting to live for Him. I've had people ask Christ to save them and when I asked them to go to church they refused. Others have said they love Jesus but again do not do what He says.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Matthew 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
When you truly repent (change your mind) and believe the only way to heaven is if Christ cloths you with "His Righteousness" and you want to live your life for Him by His rules and then ask Him to save you, God performs an operation on you that makes you His child and cloths you with "His Righteousness" so now you are dressed "properly" to enter heaven.
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nov 2, 1982 I changed my mind about what my religion had taught me, about going to heaven based on how I lived, and believed Jesus died and shed His blood to pay for my sins:
2Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
I chose to want to live my life for Him and asked Him to save me taking away my sin and give me "His Righteousness". My getting to heaven is now guaranteed. My rewards in heaven are now determined by my righteousness. In heaven we will not all be the same. Some of God's children choose to obey and some choose to disobey. Some of us will receive a full reward but some of us may receive little or none.
2John 1:8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
2Timothy 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
Your choice to repent of not being dressed "properly" to meet God and you choosing to
put your trust all in Christ -asking Him to save you determines whether you spend eternity in "heaven" or the "lake of fire". As a child of God our choice to live for Christ or satisfy our fleshly lusts and desires determines when we get to heaven whether we receive a full or partial reward or none at all. Because at times I've failed and gave into fleshly desires I will not receive a full reward.
Don't believe a lie!
A "Loving God" offers "Heaven", a "Holy God" will cast you into an "Eternal Lake of Fire" if you choose not to "Put on Christ"!
What will you do?
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
